Bill and Cathy McArthur Spring/Summer/Fall 2009: 4
Monday, June 1, our house went off of the market for the summer. Bill emailed Mike Cosmo to thank him and ask for the sign to be removed. Bill also adjusted BaieChalet.com to indicate that the house was no longer for sale. Cathy went to an appointment with Dr. Maroldo. Bill did 3 crossword puzzles and then watered the flowers. He also called Vector Security to try to straighten out their billing. Bill's left foot still hurt, so he tried to stay inactive for the day. After lunch, Bill went to Rite-Aid to buy a gel insole to help with his foot problem. We went to an appointment with our dermatologist, Dr. Weiss, who gave us a tune up. We stopped at Starbucks and then went to ACME to use Red Box to rent a dvd. Mike Cosmo removed the sale sign from the front of the house. Bill put out the trash. During and after dinner, we viewed "Taken" - a very improbable, but riveting, action movie.
Tuesday was supposed to include a paddle around Cape Island for Bill and Joe Link. Just as Bill was making final preparations, a dense fog came in. Bill and Joe talked on the phone and decided not to go. Afterward, the fog lifted and it was a beautiful day. Cathy went to the gym. Bill rode his bike to Cape May Point and walked the beach to the Cove. When Bill returned, we had lunch on the deck. Bill went out on a fishing paddle and caught a small bluefish as he drifted over a school of bunker. Bill showered outside. A line of thunderstorms passed to our north, bringing us some gusty wind, so we battened down the deck.
Wednesday continued the string of days with unsettled weather. Cathy went to the gym while Bill completed three crossword puzzles. After lunch, we went for a 6 mile walk along the Bay. Bill's left foot hurt a little. Afterward, Bill drove to K-Mart to buy a tennis racket to whack carpenter bees. He made a cappuccino when he returned home. His new Earth sandals arrived via UPS and Bill tried them on immediately. We picked up our neighbors Fran and Jim Lewis and drove to Alfe's Restaurant in Wildwood for dinner. On the way back, a powerful thunderstorm made driving difficult. The rain continued throughout the evening.
Thursday was another bleak day. Cathy went to the gym. Bill went out for an easy 5K run. After lunch, we drove to Galloway Township to Bill's urologist, Dr. Schutz for an appointment. Bill brought in his latest PSA score of 22.5. He went through a bladder scan, kidney scan, and finger up the butt. Dr. Schutz is going to try to shrink Bill's prostate with Proscar, a drug by Merck. Bill is due back on September 9 for another PSA screening. When we got back home, Bill made a cappuccino. Later, after dinner, Bill viewed "Street Kings" on DVR and found it to be an excellent movie, well cast.
Friday was rainy all day long. Cathy went to the gym. Bill lifted weights and did a homemade yoga practice, including his first head stand in a couple of years. After Cathy got home, Bill went to the Lobster House for two pounds of haddock for dinner. Katie and Eric arrived for lunch at about 1:00 PM. Tom and Rachel arrived later in the afternoon; they had stopped for lunch on the way. Bill set up his iPhone and FM transmitter to get Pandora radio on the stereo. He discovered that we could watch the cable TV picture with sound from the iPhone. Perfect for movies like "Waterworld" and "Cliffhanger". Bill and Cathy cooked a great dinner of oven-baked haddock and sauteed veggies in the wok. We had strawberry shortcake for dessert. Everyone turned in at an early hour.
Saturday led into a beautiful weekend. Bill went out for an early 5K run, then Cathy went to the gym. Tom and Katie ran to the canal while Bill babysat Rachel and Eric. We took two cars into Cape May for lunch at Louie's Pizza. Cathy and Rachel went to a party for Beth's son while Bill went out for a kayak fishing expedition. Bill had clams for bait and started about 3/4 of a mile off of our house. Bill then headed toward the concrete ship. As he crossed the canal about 1/4 mile from the mouth, a charter boat named "Canyon Clipper" almost hit him at full speed. Bill fished near the concrete ship for a while and caught a big shark which made him cut the line. Bill sprinted home and arrived at about 5:45 PM after a 4 hour paddle. It was Tom and Katie's anniversary, so they headed out for cocktails at Congress Hall and dinner at Tisha's. Bill, Cathy, and Rachel watched "Beethoven" as they ate a tortellini dinner.
Sunday was another nice day. Bill and Cathy rode their bikes to Cape May Point at an early hour. Later in the morning, we all headed to the Lobster House for a very pleasant outdoor meal. When we returned home, we all went down to the beach for a couple of hours. We sat, beachcombed, flew the kite, and Bill and Rachel went for a brief kayak ride. Bill got our second portable grill going and we grilled chicken and veggies for dinner. Rachel designed a block castle for Minnie Mouse. After dinner, Tom and Katie went to see "Hangover." When Rachel went to bed, Bill and Cathy started to watch "Revolution Road", but stopped when Katie and Tom returned from their movie.
