Bill and Cathy McArthur Spring/Summer/Fall 2010: 1
This is our first report of the time period between our winter trip (see http://www.capemaybeach.net/OnRoad2010/index.php) and the holiday season commencing with Thanksgiving. We are usually based in our home in Cape May Beach during these months of the year and, for the most part, don't want to be anywhere else. This year our house had been under contract with a projected closing date of June 25, 2010.
Note: apologies to readers of this journal. Because of the flurry of activities associated with getting back into the house and preparing for the sale of our house, we have not had time to update the journal. We have been packing our things and dealing with the long list of requirements for selling a house. Bill flew down to Florida on June 2 and drove our RV back. Also, Bill has run a 4 mile trail run, a 5K run, and two sprint duathlons. We will update the journal as we find time to do it. Our plans are to drive our car and RV to the ferry on June 25 and settle into the Steamboat Landing Campground in Lewes, Delaware until we can buy a home in the Lewes or Rehoboth Beach area. We appreciate your patience until the dust settles and we can get back to our "normal" lives (we hear the echoes of laughter). - Bill and Cathy
Thursday, May 20 , we had just returned the night before in our XTerra from our winter headquarters in Naples, Florida by way of a visit with Son Bill and family in Disney World. We arose slowly and headed to Starbucks for breakfast. When we got home, it was time to unpack the car and our suitcases and for Bill to set up the entertainment center. After some shopping at ACME, we enjoyed lunch on the Solarium. At 3:15 PM, we headed out for a walk for Cathy and for duathlon training for Bill:
It was good to be back exercising on our route from home to the Cape May Canal. Bill had noticed that the tides for Friday were excellent for a paddle around Cape Island and called Joe Link to ask him if he wanted to go. Of course, Joe was game, so they planned to leave from Joe's beach at around 7:00 AM. We had quinoa and a frozen meal for dinner. We caught up a bit on the items recorded on our DirecTV dvr before heading to bed.
Friday was a beautiful spring day. It was calm and sunny with moderate temperature and humidity. Bill left at 6:40 AM and headed south down the Bay in his kayak. He noticed that two of his Cytomax bottles had fallen off of the kayak, so he went back to pick them up behind our house and set out again. He met Joe on his beach for the 5 hour, 22 mile paddle around Cape Island. The water was as smooth as the two paddlers had ever experienced. Bill and Joe caught up with each other's winter activities as they paddled. They stopped at the break beach for a short time before a Coast Guard Zodiac kicked them off via bullhorn. The whole trip was great, in spite of some rudeness from the Coast Guard. Bill was back for lunch.
