My favorite scene in Havana: the lighthouse and fortress at the entrance to the harbor. I'd love to be able to come in on a cruise ship; help me work on it!

I found a photo from the Philly Half. Weird thing, if you switch my two inside numbers, you get one of two "retired" numbers due to registrants for the 2001 Philly Distance Run who died in the Twin Towers. I thought about that guy, Bill Fallon, the whole race.
September 20, 2011 at 4:03 pm
He was fellow Villanovan (1970). Here's a tribute to him: http://blog.nj.com/lives_remembered/2011/03/william_f_fallon_jr_53_exec_fo.html

The tornado in Lewes last night hit one mile from us while we were eating dinner in our "tornado bunker" in our basement office. We saw the suspect cell on our iPad as it moved by slightly to the north.
August 28, 2011 at 7:51 am
We thought of you after we saw the photos of where the tornado hit in Lewes. So glad you're ok. Never thought that bunker would come in handy! Being on a slab, we have nowhere to hide.
August 28, 2011 at 1:20 pm
You almost made CNN...
August 28, 2011 at 7:33 pm
Glad you have a basement! Was that toward the Ernakovich's?
August 28, 2011 at 8:07 pm
Yikes...glad you're ok...
August 31, 2011 at 5:30 pm
Under that yellow spot (for Category 1 hurricane) is my house.
August 23, 2011 at 7:42 pm
Oh bother...hang on and report in so we know you're OK.
August 23, 2011 at 7:45 pm
sweet
August 23, 2011 at 7:46 pm
I'm glad we're not in the NJ house on the beach. I always thought that house was only there temporarily, until the next hurricane comes up the Delaware Bay, which used to happen every 20 years or so up until the mid-1900s.
August 23, 2011 at 7:48 pm
i used to get nervous about that location as well. price you pay for such a good view i suppose.
August 23, 2011 at 7:50 pm
We are under the cat 3 with a 150 ft tree beside the house that keeps dropping huge limbs. Maybe we should hang out in the basement this weekend :)
August 23, 2011 at 8:21 pm
Katie - or you can come visit us in GA :)
August 23, 2011 at 8:30 pm
I bought my bike a year ago and have put 3,030 miles on it. We bought our VW (http://www.capemaybeach.net/Spring2Fall2010/email4/sp0403.jpg) on July 13 last summer and have put 2,816 miles on it. Good choice of priorities, I'd say.
August 11, 2011 at 2:51 pm
Reminder to myself: when you do a crappy run, you will be exposed to public humiliation.
August 6, 2011 at 4:12 pm
This is what I remember most about RAIN 2011 - the hills.

July 20, 2011 at 8:03 am
Congrats Bill...quite an accomplishment. I thought rolling hills of England meant gentle rollers...where did these huge climbs come from?
July 20, 2011 at 12:59 pm
Just like the Tour :)
July 20, 2011 at 4:26 pm
Bill, which one is you?
July 20, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Kathleen Engle: none of them; check my current profile photo, I just found it.

Stuff we've done since May 29. I'm always interested in seeing routes on Google Earth.
June 10, 2011 at 6:13 am
Saw lots of Dolphins, American Oystercatchers, and some Brown Pelicans, maybe visitors from Florida.
June 7, 2011 at 10:45 am
Lovely 8 mile paddle. Hopefully, I'll get the kayak out in Clearwater while we're there for a week.
May 9, 2011 at 10:18 am
Nice ride in the tandem kayak with Cathy this PM.

May 3, 2011 at 6:57 pm
I've always loved this picture!
May 3, 2011 at 7:29 pm
It was really 1977. These kids are not forever young!
May 3, 2011 at 7:52 pm
Duh, the timestamp on the photo was 2007, so I assumed that was the date it was taken, right?
May 3, 2011 at 8:02 pm
Very pleasant 18.5 mile paddle out Gordon Pass and south along Keewaydin Island. Caught one fish and had 3 other hits, but mostly was just great.
April 21, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Tried trolling with a gold spoon out on the Gulf today in my kayak. No fish, but a vigorous paddle as the wind kicked up and I had to beat my way to Gordon Pass from the Naples Fishing Pier. 16.43 miles, 4:45.
April 7, 2011 at 2:29 pm
Our outside dendritic orchid plant has bloomed.
April 1, 2011 at 3:35 pm
Does it smell as good as it looks?
April 1, 2011 at 5:06 pm
@Kathy: The blooms are thumbnail sized and seem to have no odor whatsoever. The plants are sprawling and ugly.
April 2, 2011 at 8:59 am
Not so happy about it being cooler today, but I'll take it.
February 4, 2011 at 3:10 pm
you are soooo mean Billlllll . . .

My favorite single memory of 2010 is the Sandblast Beach Run where so many of my relatives and friends were running with me. It's all about those that are on the same journey. Looking ahead to many more memorable moments.
December 31, 2010 at 4:23 pm
Great evening!
December 31, 2010 at 4:52 pm
Looking forward to the next group run
December 31, 2010 at 9:39 pm

November 11, 2010 at 5:08 pm
I took an 11 mile paddle in the mansion-lined lagoons of Aqualine Shores to see how the rich were feeling today. They were all smiling.
November 3, 2010 at 11:31 am
haha! you are so rich too! Rich with life, rich with friends, rich with family, rich with good health, rich with laughter . . . have fun!

Here's my splits from the PDR today. I was in Corral 9 and had to fight my way through the crowd for a good part of the race until I kinda petered out near the end. Beautiful day for a run.
September 19, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Great time! an easy few minute savings if you get in a better corral next time.
September 20, 2010 at 1:33 pm
Short and sweet 20 mile bike ride this morning. Not too much stress for the legs as I look forward to the half marathon in Philly Sunday
September 15, 2010 at 9:37 am
Nice...... :o)
September 15, 2010 at 10:28 am
After spin and yoga, did a "natural" 5 mile run. I found out that I'm naturally slow, but also:

Nice Labor Day 50 mile ride on the Comet. Two guys, one on a tri-bike and the other latched on with a road bike, passed me with 4 miles to go. I almost kept up until the end of my ride:
September 6, 2010 at 10:37 am
66 degrees this morning was good for my 20 miles on the bike:
August 25, 2010 at 7:41 am
Nice Speed Bill!
August 25, 2010 at 8:26 am
OH...66 degrees. Won't be long and I'm ready for some cool nights at least. Good on you, Bill!
August 25, 2010 at 8:41 am
Third ride on the Comet this AM. Stayed in aerobars about 90% of time. Before I get excited about some of my splits, I should remind myself that I had a tailwind on the way back.
August 16, 2010 at 10:20 am
I am excited anyway! :o)
August 16, 2010 at 10:22 am
Went out for a 12 miler on the Comet this morning. I'm getting more used to the bike.
August 13, 2010 at 7:59 am
your average speeds are definitely improving... AND, doesn't "the Comet" sound so much cooler than "Rapido"?
August 13, 2010 at 8:04 am
If you're trying to make me feel guilty for being out of shape, it's working.
August 13, 2010 at 8:21 am
@Steve: you'll get over it.
@Bill: yes, the Rapido is relegated to the trainer in the basement.
@Bill: yes, the Rapido is relegated to the trainer in the basement.

Great work Bill!
August 13, 2010 at 9:55 am
Nice!
August 13, 2010 at 11:17 am
First ride on the new tri-bike. Lots to get used to, but no problems on the ride. New cleat system for me was an xtra trial, but all OK. Time would have been better with a newer model engine, but I see possibilities of a good bike time at Wildwood duathlon.

Running races in Delaware has its advantages, like snuggling up to Miss Teen Delaware (she's 19, so don't call the cops)
July 18, 2010 at 1:18 pm
this looks like some bizarre reenactment of a crazy dream of yours! :)
July 18, 2010 at 1:48 pm

July 18, 2010 at 1:49 pm
@Katie: my dreams aren't that big. LOL
July 18, 2010 at 1:51 pm
That's thr kind of thing that happens when you run races that begin and end in bars w/free beer.
July 18, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Delaware's bars have free beer? That's it, we're moving.
July 18, 2010 at 4:04 pm
@Steve: yes, but you've gotta run first and then the free beer only lasts a couple of hours.
July 18, 2010 at 5:26 pm
I don't know where to start with this pic, it is so very wrong on so many levels.... Congrats? I guess?
July 18, 2010 at 5:40 pm
Arrrggghhh!!
July 18, 2010 at 6:15 pm
@Bill: It's great that I can still embarrass my kids.
July 18, 2010 at 6:49 pm
very funny... guessing you like the move to DE so far!
July 18, 2010 at 8:17 pm
@dad.... it's no video of aerobics in spandex right when you join a new high school, but it's a close runner up :)

Love it- You absolutely get the site out there. In appreciation, I'm buying you one in the next order with red side panels so you can mix it up.
June 27, 2010 at 5:20 pm
lookin good ol' man!
June 28, 2010 at 8:09 am
I felt really bushed from yesterday's paddle, so I started with a slow 2 mile run, followed by a slow 14 mile bike ride. I turned the 5 mile final run into a nice, negative split effort:
June 15, 2010 at 11:55 am
Carole and I at the Belleplain duathlon. She can run and bike much faster than I can, so I only see her at the start and awards ceremony.
June 10, 2010 at 1:49 pm
YOU'RE MY BUDDY BILL, AND DON'T KID YOURSELF, YOU ARE AMAZING, 20 YEARS OLDER AND KICKEN ASS!!! LOVE YA! C
June 10, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Nice sweaty Du training session today. Pesky south wind, so worked on cadence on upwind legs and speed on downwind legs. Still way too slow on the bike.
June 1, 2010 at 11:09 am
Sunset with the Stoops family (except for Garrett, who was sleeping on the sofa after a long afternoon at the water park).
May 30, 2010 at 7:31 pm
sorry I missed seeing you guys yesterday
May 31, 2010 at 7:47 am
First duathlon in Sea Isle City. GPS watch decided to go off and do a core dump and left me with no way of tracking my progress through the event. I decided to relax and enjoy it.
May 29, 2010 at 12:02 pm
Great 20 mile kayak paddle out onto the Gulf and 2 miles past the Naples Fishing Pier.
April 16, 2010 at 1:24 pm

April 15, 2010 at 9:54 am
you're a better man than I, Bill . . .
April 15, 2010 at 12:24 pm
@Carol: I hope so, but never a better runner. Have fun carbo-loading for Monday and have a blast in Boston.
April 15, 2010 at 1:15 pm
thanks bill, not looking forward to the weather, rain and possibly snow this weekend 100% thru sunday . . . but atleast monday there is only a 30% chance and low 50's., say some prayers and do that anti-rain/snow dance please!!!
April 16, 2010 at 8:04 am
Pretty happy with my 10K splits today. I was pushed in mile 4 by a 75 year old. I wish he kept up for the whole race. 5th in my age group. Amazing how fast the geezers are in Florida.
April 11, 2010 at 5:25 pm

February 13, 2010 at 11:12 am
Got out for an 8 mile power paddle this morning before the wind got too strong.
February 12, 2010 at 11:37 am
you'll have to show me how to do that sometime...that's from Garmin Training Center correct?
February 12, 2010 at 9:47 pm
Just a screen print cropped in Paint Shop Pro.
February 12, 2010 at 10:54 pm
Hit the wall at the start, so the 5 mile tempo run started out as a recovery run; then I got pissed at my iPod and picked up the pace.
February 3, 2010 at 11:40 am
Nice!
February 3, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Temperature and humidity reminded me of the Avalon 5 Miler in July, but my time was better today.

As I was nearing the chute on Saturday, I heard footsteps behind and kicked it in to hold off the other runner, a 15 year old girl from Naples. Am I proud of myself? You betcha!
December 16, 2009 at 11:30 am
Unexpected surprise: after 10 days of eating, healing, and lollygagging around, my first 5K training run for the Hog Trot felt good at 8:19 min/mi and negative splits. Maybe I discovered a new training technique.
November 18, 2009 at 9:35 am
Never underestimate the power of prolonged lollygagging.
